Booking Through Thursday

What, in your opinion, is the best book that you haven’t liked? Mind you, I don’t mean your most-hated book–oh, no. I mean the most accomplished, skilled, well-written, impressive book that you just simply didn’t like.

Ironically enough, it was War of the Worlds. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the movie, but reading the book was just pure torchure. Then again, I’m more of a visual person, so reading something like War of the Worlds was not my cup of tea from the beginning.

This was also around the time I was in high school. I think 1985 and War of the Worlds were “have to” reads in high school.

Nickelback’s “Gotta Be Somebody” Single (Free MP3 Download)

There’s a cool promo going on where you can download Nickelback’s1 newest single “Gotta Be Somebody” for FREE, but for a limited time only.

Let’s face it, you can’t beat free music, even if it’s just one song. Its just like those iTunes cards that Starbuck’s used to give me a million of all the time, even though I didn’t like, or wasn’t familiar with the artist, I still downloaded the song because it was FREE and I love music.

“Gotta Be Somebody” is the first single from Nickelback’s new album Dark Horse, in stores 11.18.08 and it sounds awesome thanks to the recommendation of my bestest Suz.

Just go here and fill out the appropriate boxes, you will get an exclusive link to download the MP3 that will expire 24 hours after you request it.

After this, I might have to checkout the rest of their songs that wern’t singles, because the only songs I know of theirs are their singles that have been aired on the radio.

Don’t Know What’s Better…Wal-Mart or Outlet Stores?

So a few weeks ago I was shopping at Wal-Mart just as they were marking down all their summer things on clearance. I managed to grab more than a few outfits for the boyfriend’s 6 year old daughter for a little under $10 including $1 shorts and $3 shirts. For me and the boyfriend…$1 NASCAR Hats and $5 shirts. (I love NASCAR!)

I love getting good things for cheap. It’s almost like a drug for me sadly enough. Well being a woman, it’s automatically altered in my genes to own hundreds upon hundreds of shoes and purses, so you can imagine the shop-gasm I got when my mother came home from JCPenny Outlet with these cute summer shoes marked down to $1.99:

Not to mention, I went to ANOTHER Wal-Mart near my house (I usually shop at the one by my work) when Hurricane Ike aftermath came through Ohio and knocked out everyone’s electric for a week and found racks upon racks of clearance items including solid colored t-shirts for $3.99 and this awesome little AC/DC shirt for a whopping $1:

So for all you cheap shoppers like me, do you like superstores like Wal-Mart or outlet stores better?

Camera Critters #24

This is turning out to be my favorite time of the week, here’s my Camera Critter’s meme for the weekend:

Oso In The Dark

We lost power last week for a few days due to the after effects of Hurricane Ike wind’s coming through the Ohio Valley. Oso (my dog), Smoke & Rowdy (the ferrets) stayed in the room with us throughout it all.

This was probably the longest we’ve had the ferrets in their playpen, especially since the box that the playpen came in specifically said that it was not suppose to be used as a cage.

For those that want to know, you can get the ferret playpen for $39.95 here.

A Buzz For Blog Marketing

I’ve really been getting into the buzz of blogging lately. With my fourth blog getting published this month, my blog marketing activities have increased immensely.

For those of you that are reading this right now thinking, “God this girl has no life”, yes…that might be true, but I’m getting paid to have no life. Yeah, I’m getting paid to blog and do blog advertising. I’m a skeptic by nature, but this situation is an exception to my non-trusting personality.

I’m just using the advantage of loving to create websites and blog, into having it to make a little extra money. There are more than a few websites that I have joined this past year to accomplish those goals of getting that extra buck.

I recently joined Snapbomb, which is one of those websites that I am making an income with blogging. For those speculator’s that don’t believe it and think that it’s just another scam…it doesn’t hurt to give it a try. Most internet scams start out with making you pay first, because they supposedly want to make sure you are being serious about getting into their money making business venture. Well, with Snapbomb, you can sign up for an account for free and once your blog is approved, you can get right to the blogging matter.

If you try it and I’m wrong, feel free to personally yell at me!

Booking Through Thursday

Autumn is starting (here in the US, anyway), and kids are heading back to school–does the changing season change your reading habits? Less time? More? Are you just in the mood for different kinds of books than you were over the summer?

-Booking Through Thursday Meme

Well, seeing that the Hurricane Ike winds made it to the my home in the Ohio Valley and knocked out power to everyone for almost a week (I just got my power back a few days ago), my reading habits have picked up a bit, seeing that my computer and TV was not #1 priority to plug into the generator when the power went out.

I’m more of an electronic online reading girl, all day, all the time. I read a lot of news online, and if I want to read an interesting story, I’ll open up a fanfic. I know I’ve been getting really into Digg which is a social bookmarking site, for getting all my news stories…and I’ve also been using it for exposure to this website.

The last book I read was Rescuing Sprite, which I coincidentally read when the power got knocked out last time. I had that book finished in one night and now, I’ve started reading Marley & Me which is wonderful so far.

So basically to answer the question, the changing seasons might sometimes have an effect on my reading habits, but very rarely. When the mood strikes me is random…but I’m a random person like that.

10 Supermarket Shopping Tips

QualityHealth gives you 10 easy shopping tips to help slim your grocery bill and your waistline:

    1. Shop the perimeter: Healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, dairy products, fresh meats and fish, and fresh whole-grain breads are located around the perimeter of the store. Pre-packaged and unhealthy foods and snacks are often in the aisles.
    2. Don’t shop when you’re hungry: When you walk into a store, you’re often immediately hit with the smell of delicious food. That’s why baked goods are usually at the front of the store. It’s hard to be a smart shopper when everything makes your mouth water.
    3. Look high and low: The most expensive items are usually placed at eye level: 5 feet 4 inches from the floor, to be exact. If you’re looking for less-expensive options, you’re going to have to work for it, reaching high and bending down low to the less accessible shelves.
    4. Forget what you think you know: Don’t assume that items are on sale just because they’re at the end of aisles. Oftentimes, grocers do this to catch your attention, not necessarily to give you a good deal.
    5. Don’t get distracted: Staple items, such as dairy, meat, and deli products, are placed at the back of stores. It’s no coincidence that you have to walk through several other departments to get to the things you need. Grocers know you’re likely to stop in the other departments and make purchases.
    6. Compare unit prices: Contrary to popular belief, larger-size products are not always a better buy. This often holds true for items such as peanut butter, tomato products, cottage cheese, and tuna fish.
    7. Avoid the crowd: If you get flustered or annoyed by crowds, you may be likely to buy the first thing you see just so you can get out of there. By shopping early in the morning or late at night, you can avoid the tendency to impulse shop.
    8. Clip coupons: Check to see if your local grocery store accepts competitors’ coupons. Every little bit helps, right?
    9. Don’t forget your supermarket brand: Often your supermarket brand’s products are cheaper, even if you have a coupon for a name-brand product. You and your family likely won’t notice a difference in taste.
    10. Make a list and stick to it: If you have an itemized list, you’ll be less tempted to spend money on unnecessary products–or to let the sweet smell of cinnamon buns lure you to buy one…or a dozen.

Tips On Getting Feedback For Your Website/Blog

Here’s some tips I have learned from blogging over the years on how to get people to participate on your website and/or blog. I struggled for a while with trying to find a writing theme and avenue to go down to get people to listen to me, and what better way to get people to listen to you then to write about how you are going to get them to listen to you….kind of like how a presidential candidate explains what they are going to do for the country of sorts.

      • Pinging and Link backs: When you can, link other people’s blogs on your posts. If you found information for your post topic on their site, give them credit and a link back to their page. It will most likely ping them on their site and it will automatically get your link on their site without having to wait for approval, thus gaining more exposure for your site. (Example: I do this with my NASCAR blog a lot, like on my Ron Hornaday Admits To Steroid Use post. Now go checkout the web address I pinged here on this post and see my link appear at the bottom of the post where the comments are…it’s the magic of the ping!)
      • Ask Questions & Stir Up Controversy and Debates: I always like to ask controversial questions to get people riled up and wanting to share their opinions with you. Be respectful to your visitors after they share their comments with you and respond back to comments posted on your site. A healthy debate always gets people coming back to add in their two cents, not to mention if the controversy gets them extremely angry they will post your link on other sites encouraging other people to go to your site and back up their opinions, thus getting you more visitor hits. If you are a goody two shoes, like I tend to get very rarely, then ask open ended questions like “What do you think?” (Example: I know with ViewfinderWeb and his political blog there is many opportunities open for debate with the current 2008 Presidential Election going on.)
      • Leave Feedback On Other Websites/Blogs: Find other sites with the same content or theme as your website and participate on their blog as often as you can. (Example: Like this website I just found called Blogging Girl. I visit this website often and when I have time, I leave a comment. Most will return the favor, thus giving you that extra visitor in the blog-o-sphere.)
      • Stay Updated!: If your active on your site one minute and disappear for long periods of time, those visitors and readers you worked so hard to get will loose interest and delete your link from their favorites lists. So like a 30 year marriage, keep it spicy! Change up the look and layout every 6 months or so, post a new article at least once a week and more if you have the time!

If you have any other tips or tricks to share for all you succesful, professional, and or experienced bloggers out there, feel free to comment and share, I will be adding all of these to the Resources page soon.

      Camera Critters #23

Going back to the subject of participating in meme’s, here’s one for you animal lovers out there. It’s called the Camera Critters Meme. I know I personally love animals so if you want to post your links to pictures of your little critter baby, feel free.

Here’s my camera critter for the weekend, Smoke the ferret:

      Smoke the ferret

      Smoke the ferret

      Smoke the ferret

We keep her and her big sister, Rowdy in the playpen every weekend instead of keeping them cooped up in the cage so they can freely play around anytime they want while I’m running around the house doing cleaning, laundry or grocery shopping. Smoke likes to sleep on top of the towels, Rowdy cuddles underneath it.

6 Easy Ways to Save on Your Grocery Bill

QualityHealth shows you 6 ways to save on your grocery bill:

Think like a general. Drawing up a list of the items you need before you head to the store is key, since sticking to that roster will prevent you from making impulse purchases. But if you want to be a real supersaver, you should also organize your coupons (by aisle is best), scour the circulars of area supermarkets, and decide whether a deal at a store that’s a little bit out of your way will be worth the gas (at $3.80 for a gallon of gas, it costs about 14 cents a mile for a car that averages 27 miles per gallon).

Become a card-carrying member. Nowadays, almost every supermarket and drugstore offers its customers membership in a savings club. And though you might have to get an extra key ring to accommodate the many tags you’ll need to have at the ready, the money you’ll save through special discounts, coupon bonuses, and other rewards will more than make up for the hassle.

Clip coupons. In 2006, shoppers redeemed 2.6 billion coupons, saving themselves a collective $331 billion, according to a study conducted by Carolina Marketing Services. And thanks to the Internet, coupon clipping has become much less of a chore. Many sites provide a coupon database and allow you to easily search for deals in your area.

Go generic. Because a ton of money wasn’t used to fund a megamillion-dollar ad campaign, months of research and development, and snazzy packaging, you can save as much as 50 percent when you choose a generic product over a brand name. Cereal, a common wallet drainer, is an absolute bargain when put in a no-frills package: A 16-ounce bag is about two bucks less than a brand-name box of comparable size.

Look before you buy. Just because it’s supersize or generic or on sale doesn’t always guarantee that you’ll save big or even at all. Carefully compare prices, paying particular attention to the unit price, which tells you how much money you pay per pound, per fluid ounce, or, in the case of toilet paper and paper towels, per sheet.

Don’t shop on an empty stomach and/or on little sleep. It’s simple common sense, but research bears it out: Well-fed, well-rested individuals make better choices than do hungry, tired ones. Walking into a store ravenous and weary is much like going in there without a list; you’re much more likely to buy a bunch of stuff you don’t need and forget many of the things you do require.
