Camera Critters #27

Smoke and Rowdy the ferrets are driving mommy crazy!

We bought them the playpen to stay in for hours on end to they wouldn’t be cooped up in the cage all day. Since ferrets only have a 3 hour digestive cycle, let’s just say there would be a lot of “leftovers” to clean up after they were done playing in their playpen. We’re talking about the kind of leftovers that a pooper scooper just can’t get all of.

I bought an additional litter pan and used the snaps that came with the litter pan to snap it to the playpen cage. Obviously they thought it was a new luxury bed, because this is what they did with it:

Smoke and Rowdy the ferrets

They threw all of the ferret litter out of it, detached it from the playpen cage and used it to sleep in. I tried to clean things up, refill the pan with litter and tie to to the cage again with no avail. They decorated their house the way they wanted.

Needless to say…me and the ferret pooper scooper are great friends now!

Camera Critters #24

This is turning out to be my favorite time of the week, here’s my Camera Critter’s meme for the weekend:

Oso In The Dark

We lost power last week for a few days due to the after effects of Hurricane Ike wind’s coming through the Ohio Valley. Oso (my dog), Smoke & Rowdy (the ferrets) stayed in the room with us throughout it all.

This was probably the longest we’ve had the ferrets in their playpen, especially since the box that the playpen came in specifically said that it was not suppose to be used as a cage.

For those that want to know, you can get the ferret playpen for $39.95 here.

Booking Through Thursday

Autumn is starting (here in the US, anyway), and kids are heading back to school–does the changing season change your reading habits? Less time? More? Are you just in the mood for different kinds of books than you were over the summer?

-Booking Through Thursday Meme

Well, seeing that the Hurricane Ike winds made it to the my home in the Ohio Valley and knocked out power to everyone for almost a week (I just got my power back a few days ago), my reading habits have picked up a bit, seeing that my computer and TV was not #1 priority to plug into the generator when the power went out.

I’m more of an electronic online reading girl, all day, all the time. I read a lot of news online, and if I want to read an interesting story, I’ll open up a fanfic. I know I’ve been getting really into Digg which is a social bookmarking site, for getting all my news stories…and I’ve also been using it for exposure to this website.

The last book I read was Rescuing Sprite, which I coincidentally read when the power got knocked out last time. I had that book finished in one night and now, I’ve started reading Marley & Me which is wonderful so far.

So basically to answer the question, the changing seasons might sometimes have an effect on my reading habits, but very rarely. When the mood strikes me is random…but I’m a random person like that.

Camera Critters #23

Going back to the subject of participating in meme’s, here’s one for you animal lovers out there. It’s called the Camera Critters Meme. I know I personally love animals so if you want to post your links to pictures of your little critter baby, feel free.

Here’s my camera critter for the weekend, Smoke the ferret:

We keep her and her big sister, Rowdy in the playpen every weekend instead of keeping them cooped up in the cage so they can freely play around anytime they want while I’m running around the house doing cleaning, laundry or grocery shopping. Smoke likes to sleep on top of the towels, Rowdy cuddles underneath it.

Affordable Flea Prevention for Multiple Pet Owners

I am a 100% animal lover, and if anyone needed proof, my three dogs, two ferrets and two hermit crabs can attest to that. With the warm weather season, it is not hard for the dogs to catch fleas while playing outside and then coming into the house and spreading it to the ferrets.

Me, being the cheap-skate, broke college student that I am, I will shop for only what I can afford. I quickly found out that cheap $4.99 flea and tick shampoo at the local supermarket was not going to get rid of my quick growing flea infestation.

To make matters worse, my largest, furriest dog, Oso was allergic to the flea bites so we took him to the Veterinarian. On top of the Vet giving me anti-biotics, he suggested I buy a tube of Frontline…for each dog.

$17 x 3 dogs = A LOT OF MONEY!

Ferret Flea & Tick Shampoo & Spray

Last March on my birthday, I became a new ferret owner, a few months later I adopted another ferret from the humane society.

I already have three dogs so with the hot weather came a flea infestation among all the dogs, which sooner than later spread to the ferrets.

They obviously don’t make Frontline or any other flea preventative for exotic animals (at least none that I know of!) so I searched online for pet stores that sold flea and tick spray targeted towards my exotic babies.

Thanksgiving Vacation Plans

My computer crashed yesterday and I now just got it working again. I’m sitting here now waiting for my iTunes to reinstall. I want the new Taylor Swift song and I think I may download some Children Christmas songs for Kennedy since she seems to be getting in the Christmas spirit a little early.

I am currently making plans on where I am going to shop for Black Friday. I have most people in my boyfriends family taken care of except for his grandparents and mother, and everyone in my family taken care of except for the parents. This is the first year where I will be done with Christmas shopping early. Cheers for me! Usually I’m so last minute…I’m freaking out days before Christmas.

Kennedy’s Hermit Crab died a few days ago…there’s a new Christmas gift to add to the list. It will break my heart to tell her it died, cause I know she will get sad and ask questions. She did the same thing when her goldfish died. In a way though…I feel like it’s teaching a valuable lesson…as gruesome as it sounds, I just don’t exactly know what that valuable lesson might be. I know I had to learn about death when I had fish, gerbils, hamster’s and a guinea pig, and they died.

OK maybe I will make her Dad tell her about the hermit crab…
